DID YOU KNOW that the LORD comforts us – not only with a Fathers love – but with a Mother’s love too? He offers us more than what we could ever hope to receive from any one person. He longs to gather us under His wings like a Mother Hen gathers her chicks under her wings! Sometimes we forget that we can ASK Holy Spirit – the Comforter – to comfort us! The beautiful thing is that He is always willing.
I remember, during a difficult season, simply lying on my bed in the dark and – without worshipping or reading scripture or praying in the Spirit- I just asked to be comforted. And without delay, without hesitation, He came. He came and loved on me, and he quieted my soul.
So often we turn to other things for comfort, but we soon realize they offer nothing of substance, nothing that lasts. Comfort-eating ends, and we get hungry again; movies finish and the loneliness returns; a date ends and that familiar ache rises up. And then we are faced with this Truth:
Nothing will ever truly satisfy us like the Presence of our King, the Comforter.
The sooner we let that Truth settle in our hearts and we draw near to our Father - all distractions forsaken and false comforts discarded - the sooner our hearts will be soothed, our minds will be calmed and we will be comforted. Zephaniah 3:17 talks of how the Lord will 'quiet you with by his love.'
The Holy Spirit is a Gentleman. He never forces Himself into our space. Invite Him close and He will come: whenever you need Him, wherever you need Him. He is the Comforter and He longs to comfort you!
